Washington County Redistricting Hearing - THIS Friday, April 8
9:00 AM, PCC Rock Creek, Building 3 Auditorium

Did you know that Washington County added 85,000 new residents over the last ten years?  The high rate of growth in our county has a huge impact on our representation in Salem over the next ten years, and you have a chance to tell lawmakers how to incorporate your community into a legislative district that reflects the people who live there.

The Senate and House Committees on Redistricting will be in Washington County this Friday to gather input about communities of common interest. Input from all the diverse areas across the state of Oregon is crucial to ensuring that legislators have accurate and sufficient information to create new accurate, representative districts.  Washington County has grown faster than any other part of the state, and this fact makes it even more important that legislators hear from local citizens about our communities of interest and links to areas around us.

Please come to the hearing this Friday to sign up and speak before the committee.  You may bring written testimony to submit to the committee, and each person who signs up will have about 2 - 3 minutes to speak.  Talking to the committee is simple, easy, and very helpful to enlighten legislators about all of the distinct parts of Washington County.

If you cannot make the meeting this Friday, you may submit written testimony to oregon.redistricting@state.or.us.

PCC is seeking public input on how to spend  your tax dollars.  Ask them why there is no street connection planned to connect the other North Bethany neighborhoods to 185th.  If North Bethany neighbors can only get to 185th via Springville, this increases the likelihood that Bethany Blvd becomes a highway through our community center.  Advocate for PCC to become a part of the neighborhood.

As part of PCC’s continuing quest for feedback on Bond planning and campus design, Rock Creek Campus will hold the following public events in October and November. These events will highlight several proposed campus plans and guiding principles of Rock Creek campus planning, and will seek feedback on pros and cons of each plan. Please feel free to attend one or several of these events and bring your questions/concerns!

Saturday, October 23, 10am-2pm, Rock Creek Campus, Building 3 and Learning Garden:

PCC Rock Creek’s Harvest Festival will offer unique opportunity for neighbors and community members to learn about and weigh in on various options for the upcoming campus redesign in an informal setting. Representatives will be on hand to discuss and answer questions about the 2008 PCC Bond planning process, including roads, connectivity, building placement and more.

Monday, October 25, 7-9pm, CPO7 Meeting

PCC Rock Creek Bond planners and architects will make a formal presentation on the campus redesign options brought forth by the campus and community last spring, with ample time for Q&A.

Monday, November 8, 5:30-7:30pm, Rock Creek Building 9 Event Center, Room 122C

Please join PCC Rock Creek President Dr. David L. Rule for a community forum in which we’ll discuss campus options and issues. This will give Rock Creek architects, project manager and district administration a deeper level of community input as the group prepares recommendations for the PCC Board of Directors regarding preferred campus design.

Have you ever considered:

  • How an earthquake or flood might impact Washington County?
  • If there are culturally significant buildings that might be at risk?
  • What the County can do to reduce the risk for elderly or school age populations BEFORE a disaster occurs?
Washington County is currently in the process of updating its Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan to answer some of these questions. Some of the update process is technical and involves scientific information, and County staff are working on those aspects. But there is important information about the community that only YOU, as a resident in the County, can provide.

The link below is a survey designed to gather information about how vulnerable the unincorporated parts of Washington County may be to natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods, and wind or winter storms. Click here to take the survey .  Please take a few minutes to respond to the survey by March 26, 2010. It should take about 15 or 20 minutes.

Click here to read more about the Natural Hazards Mitigation Action Plan in CPO-7's March newsletter.
