A road on a diet can be a huge benefit to a neighborhood when it supports the vehicle throughput required. Seriously considered design can create great communities. However, if gridlock is created due to the lack of "stacking" capability, then a road on diet has big disadvantages. The need to stack cars at intersections during high volume times must be considered in the design equation. In other words, sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not.
